On the morning of November16 2016, professor Edward John Louis and the other four academicians from the University of Leicester was invited to implement the 2016World Famous Scientists’ Lecturing in Hubei. Professor Ed. Louis was appointed as HUM’s Honorary Professor and were presented with the Certificate of Appointment by President Tu Hanjun. In attendance to the ceremony were key members of the School of Basic Medical Science, the Department of Human Resources, International Affairs, Science & Technology and the faculties from the relevant academic teaching departments.
During the appointment ceremony President Tu Hanjun extended the sincerest welcome to the professors from the University of Leicester. President Tu gave a brief introduction toHUM’s characteristics and ideals of international cooperation with the hopes that the professors and HUM can work together to enhance communication, heritage and friendship.
After the appointment ceremony Professor Ed. Louis gave a lecture on “Research strategies to investigate genetic mechanism of complex diseases, e.g. cancer, ageing, and diabetes”. In addition, Professor Gary Willars and Professor Steven Foster, the other professors from the University of Leicester also gave the lecture on “Genotype-phenotype of G-protein coupled receptor and complex diseases” and on “Developing new approaches in yeast to discover the mechanisms of human-disease-associated cell phenotypes respectively. The lecture was hosted by Vice President Yan Shirong, and had nearly 300 students and teachers in attendance.
After the lecture, the audience exchanged ideas with Professor Ed. Louis and the academics on their study problems and the clinical application of genetics.
