Hubei University of Medicine, basing on Hubei Province, facing the nation and focusing on the Midwest China, aims to produce medical talents with good professional ethics, solid theoretical foundation, high practical skills and innovative thinking and abilities. The undergraduate education is the mainstay, and develop the postgraduate education as well as the continuing education moderately and develop international education gradually.

Currently, the total number of students is about 8,000. The University offers 12 undergraduate specialties, including clinical medicine, nursing anesthesiology, medicine image, pharmacy, medical laboratory sciences, dentistry, rehabilitation therapy, biomedicine, pharmaceutical engineering, public administration, and information management&system, which covers medicine, science, engineering and management. Anesthesiology and Nursing are the National Distinguished Specialty under Construction as well as the Hubei Provincial Brand Specialty for Undergraduate. Stomatology, Pharmacy and Clinical Medicine are the Hubei Provincial Brand Discipline for Undergraduate. The Training Pattern Reform for Medical Talents of 5-Year Clinical Program and the Training Pattern Reform of Free Medical Education for Students from Rural Area are the Trial Project authorized by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health for the Excellent Doctor Training and Education Plan in the first batch. Pharmacy (Chinese Medicine Production) is the National Pilot Project of the Specialties Comprehensive Reform, as well as the Talent Training Program for the Strategic Emerging (Pillar) Industries in Hubei Province. Clinical Medicine and Nursing are Pilot Projects of Provincial Specialty Comprehensive Reform Project. Currently, HUM has 3 Provincial Experiment Teaching Demonstration Centers. The Basic Medicine Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center and Clinical Skills Experimental Teaching Demonstration are the practical teaching platform shared by all the medical students. English Language Leaning Center is for the public English teaching and learning of non-English majors. The University has 2 Provincial Excellent Teaching Teams, namely Anesthesiology and Basic Medicine Experiment, and 7 Provincial Excellent Courses, including Human Anatomy, Internal Medicine, Physiology, Clinical Anesthesiology, Surgical Nursing, Medical Nursing and Prosthodontics. Healthy Life Guidance is the Provincial Excellent Open Video Course.

Guided by the Spirit of Arduous Pioneering and Self-Discipline and sticking to the University Motto of “Integrity, Diligence, Veracity and Creativity”, the University is always adhering to the principle of teaching oriented, individualized teaching and application focused. The quality-oriented education and innovative education are emphasized. Much attention has been paid to the coordinated development of students’ knowledge, abilities and quality. Feasible schooling system has been adopted to encourage students to minor in other specialties or take a second degree.

HUM has 5 affiliate hospitals, all of which are highest Level 3 hospitals. Taihe Hospital is honored as the Excellent Collectives of National Civilized Unit, National May 1st Labor Award and National People Trusting Hospital. The unique Embryonic Stem Cell Research Center in north-west Hubei Province is also set in the hospital. Dongfeng Hospital is honored as the People Trusting Hospital and National Top 100 Hospital. It is also a qualified hospital to conduct organ transplantation. People’s Hospital is honored the People Trusting Hospital and 3-A Level Model Hospital. It is a qualified hospital to conduct Assisted Reproductive Technology authorized by the Ministry of Health in the first batch. Xiangyang Hospital is honored the People Trusting Hospital and National Excellent Unit of Protecting Consumers’ Rights and Interests. It is also the International Urgency Aid Center Network Hospital and the Hubei General Practitioners Training Base. Suizhou Central Hospital is honored as the Hubei Provincial Excellent Level-3 Hospital and People Trusting Hospital. The total beds of the five affiliated hospital reaches 7,500, 6 million outpatients and 240,000 inpatients. There are one National Key Discipline, and 30 Provincial Key Discipline. 43 teaching and practice hospitals, which are all 3-A Level hospitals are available for the students, which will guarantee the quality of the medical education.
