The Nursing Skills Center (NSC) is a teaching and research institution for the HUM nursing school, founded in October 2009. In line with its construction concept of leading the province and becoming first-class in the country, a high level and high standard was used in its construction. In design, the concept of a fully simulating real-life hospital’s clinical criteria and device configuration gives trainees an immersive experience. To meet the teaching needs and highlight the principles of the nursing specialty, the center has fully demonstrated the principles of an “advanced , forward-looking, scientific and, professional”nursing school.
The NSC has a total of five floors, with a total construction area of 3,500 square meters, and a total equipment value reaching of over 7.26 million yuan. The NSC’s equipment includes sim 3G high-level synthesis, METI baby comprehensive simulation babies, senior delivery models, ALS Sims, bedsore care models, virtual intravenous injection systems and other advanced imported equipment. The Center includes: community care training, geriatric rehabilitation nursing training, basic nursing skill training, nursing comprehensive skill training and Intensive Care training platforms. The Center consists of 17 functional modules to fit the needs required by the Clinical Nursing Skill Operation. The various functional areas not only emphasize the inherent atmosphere and professional skill training requirements, but also engage in skill training for each subject, making students’ skills independent and uniform.
To demonstrate the ideals of modern nursing and to comply with international nursing education, the NSC has a simulated operating room, a simulated delivery room, a simulated ICU, virtual scene training room, standard adult ward, maternal wards and geriatric rehabilitation wards where the center can run training simulations. The central control room can be monitored in real time for each laboratory, where video teaching materials can be shown and teaching can be observed and, advanced environment conditions are provided for skill assessments. Ploycom, a remote video teaching system has been connected with the United States National League for Nursing (NLN), the Australian Nursing Association and, HOPE School of Nursing at Wuhan University to conduct remote sessions with nursing counterparts at home and abroad.
The Nursing Skills Center takes charge of 2500 nursing students to train them with basic knowledge and professional skills as well as provide a good platform for nursing research The NSC can also meet the needs of clinical nurses and nursing teachers in pre-service training, skill assessment, continuing education and, professional skill training. We are striving to turn the center into into a national nursing skill demonstration center within the next five years.
