On the afternoon of October 13th, Professor Michael Buchfelder, Chairmanfrom Department of Neurosurgery, Friedrich-Alexander-UniversitätErlangen-Nürnberg(FAU), visited Hubei University of Medicine (HUM) . Professor Yan Shirong, vice presidentof HUM, attended the reception activity and had adelight communication with Professor Michael Buchfelder. Professor Michael Buchfelder recalled the experience of his ever visits to HUM,high praising the great changes and theremarkable developmentof the university in recent years.
Later, Professor Buchfelder delivered an enlighteninglecture on the topic ofManagement of Craniopharyngiomas for HUM faculty and students. The lecture covered a wide range of topics, including different surgical approaches, outcomes, and novel treatments such as tumor drainage and inhibitor usage. Through compelling data on postoperative complications, tumor recurrence rates, and overall survival rates,he discussed the advantages and limitations of endoscopic endonasal surgery, transcranial surgery, and hybrid techniques, underscoring the significance of multidisciplinary collaboration among neurosurgeons, endocrinologists, and radiation oncologists to optimize patient outcomes. Another groundbreaking development presented by Prof. Bruchfelder was the use of inhibitors directly into the tumor. This emerging technique targets specific molecular pathways involved in tumor growth, offering a potential breakthrough in treatment efficacy while minimizing side effects.
The lecture concluded with an engaging question and answer session, where Prof. Bruchfelder showcased his expertise and down-to-earth demeanor.Attendees were provided with an opportunity to explore further into the topics discussed during the lecture, benefiting from Prof. Bruchfelder's insightful and often humorous responses.
