School of Basic Medical Sciences
The School of Basic Medical Sciences consists of 13 teaching and research offices, including Human Anatomy, Embryological, Chronobiology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Immunology, Preventive Medicine and Forensic Medicine.Human Anatomy and Embryology are the subjects with specially-appointed professors of the Chekiang Scholar Plan. The School of Basic Medical Sciences has 1 key laboratory and 1 provincialexperimentation center. Being a grade 1 provincial subject, the School of Basic Medical Sciences holds master degree authorization. As a center for both medical research and education, the School undertakes all the basic medicine teaching for students of different levels and makes it accessible for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The School of Basic Medical Sciences cultivates talent by using a well-structured group of respected scholars who teach and research and operate as the backbone of the program. Among the scholars we have teaching in the School of Basic Medical Sciences many have returned from studying overseas and hold doctorate degrees. There are 70 teachers with senior professional titles, 7 returnee doctors, 2 appointed professors of Chekiang Scholars Programming, 1 teacher with the Huber Provincial Distinguished Teaching Award, 4 specialists with a special provincial allowance, and 4 influential provincial and city academic leaders.

The School of Basic Medical Sciences teaches preclinical medical courses such as, anesthesiology, nursing, pharmacy, medical imaging, dentistry, medical laboratory science, public administration, rehabilitation therapy, as well as more than 50 compulsory and elective courses. The School of Basic Medical Science focuses on course development, teaching quality, and a rounded educational experience. Our 2 key courses are on the provincial level. We cultivate creative and qualified medical talents. The School of Basic Medical Sciences pays attention to undergraduates’ participation in scientific research, who have more than 20 research projects and 10 paper publications in the last two years, 3 of them achieved provincial outstanding scientific research award for college students.

The School of Basic Medical Sciences strengthens the basic medical theory research and clinical medical practice by having a high starting point, cutting-edge technology and a high level of scientific research. The School of Basic Medical Science has achieved great success with its culti-level, culti-faceted, medical and biomechanical research, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The School of Basic Medical Sciences conducts 6 projects funded by Chinese Natural Science Foundation and 57 projects of ministerial or provincial level as well as publishing more than 100 SCI Research papers. Great efforts and achievements in academic communication have also been made. HUM hosts national and provincial academic conferences, and invites famous scholars from both domestic and abroad for lecture The School of Basic Medical Sciences has also enhanced long-term relationships with foreign cultural exchanges in cooperation with University of California, University of Duisburg-Essen, Emory University, Chichester College, and Ohio University.

The School of Basic Medical Sciences has a public-oriented open platforms for scientific research, and can has and area of 1600m2 of medical instruments the equipment cost of which is estimated at ten million Yuan. There are divisions in cell culture chamber, molecular biology laboratory, medical biomechanics laboratory, electrophysiology laboratory, pharmacology laboratory, neurobiology laboratory, pathogen biology laboratory, molecular imaging laboratory, oncology laboratory and more. The labs are equipped with large equipments like IVIS Spectrum imaging system for living animals, ZEISS confocal microscopic system, patch clamp, fluorescence microscope, LEICA image analyzer, PCR instrument, a digital gel image analysis system,  MILLIPORE ultra-pure water system and so on. Our accessible technology serves to lay a solid foundation for high-level research for the teaching staff, graduates and post-graduates alike.
