Hubei University of Medicine initiated the continuing education program in 1984. The Continuing Education and the Higher Vocational Education College, now renamed as the School of Continuing Education was founded in March 2000 and is carrying out the adult academic credentials education, self-taught examination, education without record of formal schooling. The total number of enrolled student is more than 9,000.

The School offers the 4-year undergraduate program of Clinical Medicine, Anesthesiology, Nursing, Public Administration, Medical Imaging, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Medical Laboratory Science. The 3-year program includes Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science and Medical Imaging.

The School began to enroll community nursing students of self-taught in undergraduate stage as well as the full-time undergraduate tutorship classes in 2008. In order to make more student receive the higher education and meet the social demand for compound medical talents, the School begin to offer the programs of Pharmacy and Drug Marketing, Information Management and Service etc, with the approval of Hubei Provincial Council for Self-taught Higher Education Examinations, and began to enroll students national wide who are interested in these program.

In recent 10 years more than 11,000 people have acquired the bachelor degree or college degree of continuing education from the HUM. Since 1999, the School began the program of granting the bachelor’s degree. Some training courses and training classes are also offered for the general practitioners, community nurses, passing medical licensing examination, registered nurses examination, rural doctors, hospital deans of village and towns, health service management and birth plan techniques.
