Health Administration and Development Research Center

The Health Management and Development Research Center was officially established April 2011. Based on the three disciplines: management science, ethics and, linguistics, it is divided into three different fields of research medical care of poverty-stricken areas, estimation of disease burden and system construction and, medical language. The Center’s early research was in medical insurance, language and ethics, forming the basic research model through a combination of basic theory and clinical practice. Through our unique methods the Health Management and Development Research Center has become a leading research place in the province. The center initiated the establishment of the Society of Shiyan Medical Humanities along with the construction of a Medical Humanities skill training base for Chinese Medical Practitioners.

The Health Management and Development Research Center depends on Hubei University of Medicine, through the integration of medical resources and education among the affiliated hospitals forming the following characteristics: the combinations of management and medicine, humanities and medicine; macroscopic research of health policy and microscopic health services; industry, learning and research. Currently three works have been published by the center including China Medical Insurance Negotiation Mechanism, six textbooks are planned to be published and, Health Insurance and Health Management have already come out. The published research results on health management, professional curriculum and teaching content research and practice was awarded the second prize of Hubei Provincial Peoples Government Award. Other achievements by the Health Management and Development Research Center include; 7 SCI papers, 4 ISTP, EI papers; 5 scientific and several technological achievements.

Medicare Study of Poverty-stricken areas: the research mainly dealing with specific populations in poor areas (for example, the elderly or disabled) or medical cost of specific diseases, the operation of health insurance funds or an evaluation of issues in the health system. The priority and characteristics of our research lies in the estimation of the medical costs from specific diseases and the ways to optimize medical insurance management.

The research of estimation of disease burden and system construction: It concentrates the study nationwide and in Hubei. The study concentrates diseases like stroke and, lung cancer to explore the establishment of a national disease measurement system. By improving the system with DALY method, the characteristics of disease measurement method can be formed.

Medical Language Research: Medical Language Research is defined as the basic concepts of medical linguistics, disciplinary nature, exploring the principle of doctor-patient interaction, cooperation and corpus collection. The study focuses on the pragmatic features of certain types of medical language, principles, qualitative analysis of case language characteristics, how doctors and patients send and receive information and, quantitative analysis of social factors affecting doctor and patient interactions.
